2011.

Is it sad that I can’t review my year without looking at my calendar? Probably.

But it’s true. And it’s my story of 2011.

I held two jobs this year. That in itself is awesome, in this uncertain economic time. Not even that, they were two awesome jobs - umpiring softball which was a dream come true, and working a desk job at the Computing Help Desk where I’ve made great friends and truly enjoy what I do - even if it’s just resetting your password.

I spent a full year in college. 2011 was my first full year of college. Spring semester I finished up a phenomenal time in the Freshman Leadership Council, danced in my first Dance Marathon, and enjoyed my first semester as a Chi Phi brother. Summer, I moved into the fraternity house - something I had been counting down to since my first week in college, I worked full-time, and I experienced the magic of Summer B. And this past fall, I rejoined the Freshman Leadership Foundation as an assistant director, served as a PR captain for DM and a director for Blue Key, and was elected to Chi Phi exec. I’ve been truly blessed with the opportunities I’ve experienced so far in college.

I learned why being Greek mattered this summer. This Summer, I went to Indianapolis to experience the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute and learned why being Greek was such a big deal and how to improve my chapter. Within a few weeks, I was back home in Orlando celebrating Chi Phi’s 146th Congress with Theta Delta’s fantastic alumni and brothers. Brotherhood is something I cherish more than most now.

I raved my way to broken glasses, I crashed my car on the Turnpike, I battled pneumonia and burnout, but I made it. And I love it. 2011 brought me many things - good and bad - and I just wish 2012 to be full of the same awesome experiences. Happy New Year!
